In 1982, a book called ''The Secret: A
Treasure Hunt'' written by Byron Preiss, was published. It contains 12 verses
and 12 pictures. The mystery of this book is that the reader has to match the
pictures with the verses and then solve the riddle of a certain verse and a
matching picture. In case of successfully solving the given problem, the reader
would be able to find one of the twelve treasures hidden across USA.
However, in three decades no one was
able to find all the treasures. Only two of twelve riddles are currently solved
and successfully located on the map of USA. Here is an example of one of the two
matching verses and pictures:
Where M and B are set in stone
And to Congress, R is known
L sits and left
Beyond his shoulder
Is the fair folks'
Treasure holder
the end of ten by thirteen
is your clue
Fence and future
Central too
For finding jewel casque
Seek the sounds
Of rumble
Brush and music
Hush
And to Congress, R is known
L sits and left
Beyond his shoulder
Is the fair folks'
Treasure holder
the end of ten by thirteen
is your clue
Fence and future
Central too
For finding jewel casque
Seek the sounds
Of rumble
Brush and music
Hush
Nonetheless, what I find to be the real mystery about
this, is not where the treasure are located and
how these verses together with their pictures were created, but who
placed those treasures especially if there are twelve of them and they are
widely spread across the whole country rather than a single area. Moreover, if
the writer himself knew about the latter treasures, why would not he himself
find those or tell his friends or relatives about it rather than writing a
book.
